A29 Residence (The Wave)

Contextual veracity also dictates the form of House A29 by the waterfront in Victoria Garden City, Lagos, where a staid external morphology derived from Afro-Brazilian architecture and colonial architecture features is the face the building presents to the street. The interior is consciously contemporary, and guests gasp in surprise at the contradiction it poses with its contextual exterior. The soaring ceilings and open plan view of the building, as well as its curvilinear forms on the upper floor and first floor plane are all concealed behind an elegant but self-effacing exterior. The horizontal plane of the ground floor and the rear view facing the expansive lagoon waterfront verifies the “Wave” as a study in complexity and contradiction, presenting a very different aspect from that which the elevation to the street portends.
